Dual screen output (presentation / beamer mode)
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:22:34 AM »
How get the settings right for use with a beamer?
I always have to restart before I get two screens, and then the second one is in use as an exntension of the first.
Anyone a solution?

Do you want the screens to look the same?

If it is an NVIDIA graphics card then do the following:

Open a terminal

Type sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings and press enter.
Type your password. The package "nvidia-settings" will be installed.

When the installation finishes, type sudo nvidia-settings to start the program. Then do the following:

After that you just need to reboot your computer.

I do not have any other graphics cards so i cant help you with other brands.

If you are using an Intel video chipset, it should work out of the box except last I heard, there are some bugs in the 950 chipset, but mine works fine with minimal tweaking.

For future reference, it would help if you include what relevant hardware you are using.

I found a solution after I've discovered that AMD does not provide a Linux solution for this ATI 9600 display in my notebook.
Fille in the right option at the checkbox in <system> <preferencies> <screens> [ cloned screens] and it will turn into a dual screen system.

There is however a disadvantage: using a videoplayer will result in only viewing screen. The other one stays dark.
