DVD video not working right on Ubuntu 9.04
« on: January 05, 2010, 09:05:32 PM »
DVD's are not working correctly on my Ubuntu 9.04 installation. They play but do lots of skipping and jerky playback with an almost echo kind of sound in Totem and VLC. In Realplayer 11 I just get the message:
"Component Missing - the player does not have the capabilities to play back this content. The following components are required: VOB"

I have libdvdread4 installed and I followed the Jaunty instructions  here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs .

I need to play DVDs and I don't want to have to go back to Windows, please help!

Okay I'll try it.

And I've tried installing my ATI graphics driver from their site but I get an error installing it, the guys on ubuntuforums.org believe it is because my ATI driver does not support my linux kernel version.
Is the default ubuntu ATI driver okay?
