Static IP Address - Ubuntu Server 12.4 LTS
« on: January 21, 2014, 07:17:02 AM »
Hi Fellow Techies.... :)
I gave a static IP address to my eth1 as follows
Auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.xx.xx
netmask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 1xx.xx.xx
I saved the file afterwords i did the following
Sudo nano /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base
and wrote as below
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.8.4
saved it
I am getting the below error when I try to  down the Ethernet adapter. "/etc/network/interfaces :2: misplaced option
ifdown : couldn't read interface file "etc/network/interfaces"
then I restarted the Server and upon starting I observed the below
Starting configure network devices --- FAIL
Starting configure Virtual devices ---- FAIL
ANY IDEA WHATS GOING ON??
Appreciate all your help as I am literary "dead in the water" :-\
Cheers

If you look at your interfaces file you will notice the first line wraps and is not commented, comment out the second line or make it one line
