dual boot probs

Hey guys i am really new here , my problem is i have installed windows xp on one hdd and ubuntu 10.04 on another hdd and would like to b able to choose between the two at start up but instead i just get a blank screen please help me out if you can thanks everybody!

does a menu appear allowing  you to choose xp or ubuntu ?
