Laptop heats up

Hi,
       I am pretty new to Ubuntu. I installed 10.04 in my Compaq Presario C700 recently and I see my core 0 temp reaching upto 90 degrees (celsius)
the laptop fan kicks in at 90 and it comes down to 80s range for a  few minutes. is it normal ?
 My CPU temp is  showing as 0

I do not have this problem when I work on Win XP

Can someone please help ?

I noticed with my Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that when I used Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid, the laptop ran warmer than it did with Windows Vista, but once I upgraded to 10.10 Maverick, it runs nice and cool. I don't know, but this issue may have been addressed in the update.
