Ubuntu-Tv-setup help needed!

Well i pretty much just installed Ubuntu 10.04.1

had a problem at first that after install the monitor just went to "sleepmode" or whats it called..

xorg.conf did not exist or something but everything that way is working now..
But
The main use of the comp is suppose to be playing movies, etc to my TV, and thats not working that great.

Been looking at some guides on how to fix this but like i said im new to this so im totally lost here... =)

The TV is a PAL-B on Svideo, supports 800*600 (old TV)

The current state of everything is that im trying to use a clone to the Tv
but it ended up with me having a screen on my screen =P on my desktop i can see the lines of the tv monitor 800*600
and the picture on the Tv is Black and white.

the problem is no clear is it :

when your tv is  connected to you pc it does work ?

no ide if thats right in any way. =(
