Need driver/graphics help - Ubuntu Newbie
« on: October 19, 2011, 11:17:12 PM »
I just installed Ubuntu 11 on a spare PC I had (old Dell P4 2.8ghz 512mb RAM w/ Intel 82865G graphics on the Mobo.)  This is my first venture with Linux, so I have no clue what I'm doing, however, know my way around a PC fairly well.  My issue is I tried to run a game (SuperTuxKart) for my kids and when I got launch the game it opens a "window" then immediately closes and I assume it is due to graphics.  When I got system information and look under graphics it say "Driver: Unknown"  and "Experience: Standard".   Is this correct?  From my research it appears Ubuntu comes with the Intel video drivers.  Even so, I downloaded a Linux Intel driver but have no idea how to install it.

Any help is appreciated!

If you are having trouble with the current driver try installing the proprietary driver through the Ubuntu GUI. This website has a short tutorial that shows you how to install the proprietary driver for the video card you are using. http://ubuntuforum.webs.com/proprietarydrivers.htm.
