I NEED HELP!!!! TRYING TO SET UP A STATIC LAN

Hello Everyone,

This is my second day messing around with the ubuntu server, I have no experience with linux or anything like this at all. I just wanted to create my own web server myself so I followed this tutorial. http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/how-to-setup-a-dedicated-web-server-for-free/comment-page-1/#comments

I got to section 8 and I'm at the part where he is saying to setup a static LAN address and that I need to search google on how to do that. Well I went on this forum and found some useful information, but I am still having trouble understanding what people are saying.

If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.
