Having problem with ubuntu terminal when putting some code to download software

Pls help me any1
I want to develop apps for ubuntu phone...
but when I open the terminal and put the code to download the Qt tool kit theterminal wants password ...thts ok
BUT when I type the passwrd ..terminal cant read it frm keyboard .!!!
I try with num,caps,scroll locks...bt same prob with evry time!!!
