Ubuntu 11.04 Will not start in VMWare Player

Hi,

I downloaded and installed Ubuntu 11.04 server in a VM.  The physical hardware config is AMD Phenon II X6 in a Gigabyte motherboard with 8 GB of memory.  The host operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit.

I was able to install Ubuntu and able to log in successfully.

I issued the command sudo shutdown now -P and Ubuntu shut down successfully.  But when I try to start the VM again, it just came up to a blank screen.  I waited for 1 hour thinking that it might be updating itself but nothing happened.

Is this version of Ubuntu already stable or did I miss something during the install process?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I am new to Ubuntu and Linux.
