excessive load on 12.04. 4-cpu

after i upgraded to 12.04 in may my load average shot way up.  even when i wasn't touching my desktop.  and when i ran much more than a few konsoles--like having two copies of firefox and evolution--the the load went past 9.00.  i tried the ubuntuforums site.  zip. 

according to the launchpad.net page, this bug had been resolved, but i didn't see how.  anybody here know how to fix this?
