Sony Vaio Webcam Issue Help Y'all!!
« on: November 19, 2012, 05:44:44 PM »
Hi fellow Ubuntu/ Linux users.

I have always liked Ubuntu, prefer it much more that Windows. Although one thing has always been bugging me
ever since I started using Ubuntu, and that for me was in the v9.10 days.
Anyway to cut to the chase, I have a sony vaio VGN-FE31Z (to many of you that means nothing) Running Ubuntu 12.04,
it has a built in webcam, that due to whatever issue, is absolutely useless, although works perfectly on Windows.

Here are some results from 'lsusb'

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 054c:0281 Sony Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0ac8:c002 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC1
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 044e:300c Alps Electric Co., Ltd Bluetooth Controller (ALPS/UGPZ6)
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 192f:0916 Avago Technologies, Pte.

Now I know there is a way it can work as I had it working once upon a time on v10.10 although the post
I read has probably been lost in a labyrinth of threads, never to be found again.

Cheese shows me green then crashes, Camorama, has a strip at the top that works the rest is green,
obviously Skype as always doesn't show anything.

So hopefully someone can help me complete this system.

Thanks all.
