I've concluded that I need to install libdvdcss2 and codecs in order to play many commercial copyrighted DVDs and view some media.  However, I'm a relative newbie, and don't know how or where to start.  Can someone please give me easy-to-follow instructions?  I assume I must go into 'terminal' mode to enter commands to accomplish this, but I'm afraid I'll botch something up.  Assume nothing more of me and my skills; I am far from computer savvy.  Thanks!!!

Thanks for your reply, Joe12.  This didn't work for me.  The Restricted Extras was already installed, and NO media player I downloaded and installed would work.  However, a friend of mine found an answer that does work, and in the spirit of Linux, Ubuntu and this site, I'd like to pass it along for others:

Install the libdvdread4 package (no need to add 3rd party repositories) via terminal command line as follows:

     sudo apt-get install libdvdread4

Then execute:

     sudo /user/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

It's that simple!  Movie Player, pre-installed with Ubuntu 9.10 in my PC, now plays everything!
