I think that you should start a forum section for general chit-chat like 'community-cafe' or the like.  Additionally, since it is just getting started, it may be a good idea to have another section for brief introductions like some forums do (and possibly to prompt users to post there before posting anywhere else on the forum).  That's just a couple of my ideas so far.

Oh, and how nice it is to receive even an automated message welcoming one to the forums.  I like receiving a message when I join a forum even one that is automated, providing a brief introduction to the forums.

Agreed, first thing I went looking for was a hello-chit-chat forum, I just like saying hello on any new forum, so... Hi all I'm new here ;P

PS mixing the chit-chat and intro forums into one helps keep them both active, and gets new members jumping into convos quickly too. Just an observation.

Yes, a Community-Cafe section would be a grand idea. 

I've always participated in there, in other Forums, to include Ubuntu's Forums
